Our team at East Coat Sports wants to help more people experience the many great outdoor activities available here in the Surf City, North Carolina area, and we offer several equipment rental services to let you do just that.
For example, we offer high-quality kayak rentals to help you try your hand at this exciting sport. If you are interested in renting a kayak, here are a few tips for your first trip:
- Wear a Life Jacket. One key thing you will need to do after you finalize your kayak rentals and before getting out on the water is put on your life jacket or personal floatation device (PFD). In addition, you will need to check that you are wearing it properly—it should be snug enough that it won’t slide off if you enter the water unexpectedly.
- Go Along the Shoreline. If you are new to kayaking, we recommend that you plan your route along the shoreline, rather than steering directly into open water. By sticking close to shore, you ensure that you can always get back to that shore if you get tired out, rather than getting stranded far away from land.
- Pack Supplies. Since our kayak rentals are only available for day trips, you don’t need to worry about packing an entire camp’s worth of supplies, but you should still bring a few essentials along with you. We recommend that you pack water and snacks to keep your energy up, a set of dry clothes (in a waterproof bag) to change into if you happen to capsize, a waterproof phone case, an extra paddle, and a tow line.
